Nairobi is sometimes referred to as "New York on Steroids" ... and within this bustling city, there are some tragic slums, such as Kibera. But the women in this community are becoming empowered so that they are not seen as "helpless" or "needing handouts". Volunteer efforts will establish self help groups in Kibera with the overall goal being economic independence for the women. Each self help group will work towards creating and selling traditional jewellery and handicrafts from Kenya.
